Archangel Names In The Bible
We all have heard the “angel” word, however, it has a very meaningful origin. There’s a Hebrew word for “giant” and the term lies in that word. There’s an interesting story found in The Apocryphal Book of Enoch, which explains that there were some rebel angels who “left their first estate” which means they came down to Earth to procreate with humans. There’s a mention about this kind of angels in the New Testament in Jude:
And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Jude 1:6
Due to this mating between humans and angels, the results were disastrous, the creatures of these procreations were considered abominations by many high hierarchies of the angelic realm, all these hybrid creatures, and their procreators are known as “fallen” as denoting a fall from grace, though it simply means “descend from the heavens”.
The Bible has a very strong distinction between good and bad angels. Although there’s no specific fight or conflict between them, it is just one good, and the other evil.
The real conflict is waged on earth between God’s Kingdom and Evil’s one. They compete for the control of the earth and humanity, but the Evil kingdom has always been supposed to be inferior.
According to the Bible, there’s only one archangel: St Michael the Archangel. However, there’s another important name that comes out: Archangel Gabriel (although, the Bible never labels him as an archangel).
We can encounter St Michael the Archangel many times in both the New and Old Testament. He appears twice in the book of Daniel. There was a fight between Archangel Michael and the Prince of Persia so Gabriel could deliver a message to the prophet (Daniel 10). He appears again in Daniel 12, it says St Michael the Archangel protected Israel from spiritual attacks.
He appears again in Jude 1:9 in a fight with the Devil. He rebukes Satan when he tries to get him to blaspheme God as they argue about the body of Moses.
St Michael The Archangel
Archangel Michael is not only one of the most powerful archangels, but he is also at the top hierarchy and is very famous. He is a divine celebrity. His name means “Who is like God?”. He is a natural warrior. He is described as a warrior who dresses in imposing armor, with a big sword and shield to fight against the most evil demon armies.
Archangel Raphael
His name means “Divine Healer”. He is one of the most friendly archangels in heaven. There’s a passage in Tobit 12:15-22 who encouraged Tobit and Tobias to sing praises to God. Archangel Raphael is also known as the doctor of the sick both physically and spiritually.
Archangel Gabriel
His name means “Strength of God”.
He is one of God’s messengers and had one of the most important missions in human history. Gabriel announced María that she would be the Mother of the Messiah.
Other Archangel Names
In other ancient texts, we can find mentions of many other angels and archangel names, however, in the Bible, there’s only mention to two of them that we already covered.
Archangel Metatron
He is one of the most inspiring and interesting Archangels. He is known for being one of the human beings that ascended to heaven and became a divine entity (Archangel Sandalphon was once a human as well). He is also known for being one of the most powerful exposures of sacred geometry. He also has a very strong male energy.
Archangel Jophiel
She is one of the few female archangels known. She’s related to beauty and positivism.
Archangel Uriel
The archangel who guarded the Garden of Eden, the angel who slew the Assyrian arm. He’s known as the archangel of inspiration and life paths.
Azrael
There’s not much information about him but many have labeled Azrael as the Archangel of Death responsible for the tenth plague in Egypt. Many people confuse him with Archangel Raziel which is described as the keeper of God’s secrets.
Archangel Chamuel
He’s not associated with any official scriptures, however, many labeled him as the Archangel of Peace, Wisdom, and Stability. He works specifically in our love relationships. He is also known as the cupid of the archangels since one of his specialties is to help us find our soul mates.
Archangel Jeremiel
The official translator of the highest light and wisdom of heaven. He communicates through dreams and visions and can help you develop clairvoyance.
There are other honorable mentions of other archangels with lower hierarchy but very powerful as well, like Archangel Muriel, Barachiel, Archangel Zadkiel, and Archangel Raguel.
The Archangel Names And The Loyalty To God
Let’s talk about the darkest of the Archangel Names.
In ancient texts, it is said the leader of the fallen angels or evil angels, Lucifer, was the one who truly loved God more than anyone. At the time of the angels’ creation, they were granted free will, similar to humans, but with some extra benefits and also restrictions.
However, after mankind was created, God slightly considered humans superior to the angels. They were only considered simple supernatural servants of heaven realm and commanded the angels to bow before the new figure. One of the most powerful angels at that moment refused, his name was Lucifer, who had high loftiness, and serving humans was considered degrading for him. He will only bow to his beloved God and no one else. This was considered an insubordinate behavior by the other archangels and expelled him from Heaven.
This is why many people believe that Lucifer and his followers should not be considered “demons”. Since they just refused to serve humanity, they did not rebel against God. They only believed all the creatures of the universe should only bow to God and no one else.
The Angels Rank, Archangel Names Hierarchy
In the angelic realm, the archangel names supposedly can be members of more than one rank – it means that an “Archangel” can also be a “Cherubim” and vice versa. There are not so many details that have been revealed to humanity about this topic, however, we understand the basic structure of this angelic hierarchy, which is enough to build a list about the different ranks and spheres of this divine elite of Heaven:
First Sphere
This is basically the first ring of reach. Those in this sphere are the closest entities to God and receive orders and tasks directly from the maximum authority. The angels in this ring are also allowed to propose divine actions, like for example when Uriel asked God to flood the earth to get rid of the giant angel-human mutations.
- Seraphim
- Cherubim
- Thrones
Second Sphere
They manage the tasks on the spiritual plane. These archangels have very low contact with humans and the physical plane since they serve primarily to God and the Angels and Archangels. There’s very little information about them and there are few Archangel names known in this category. We are going to create another blog post related to them. They deserve a whole article since it is an extensive topic. The ranks in this sphere are:
- Dominions
- Virtues
- Powers
Third Sphere
This is the sphere for those who can perform tasks and actions in the physical plane, like the universe and the earth. Entities in this sphere have a strong relationship with humans. Entities in the first sphere can come to earth and communicate and deliver blessings to humans, so this is why they can belong to more than one rank. They can receive orders directly from the maximum authority and also they can perform such tasks in the physical plane:
- Archangels
- Principalities
- Angels
The Archangels have a big authority. They command Principalities and Angels. Principalities supervise the actions of the Angels, also known as “guardian angels”. Basically, a guardian angel is the lowest rank in heaven but they are the ones who have a strong connection and contact with each of us, in the spiritual and physical plane (see Ophanim Angels).
As you can see, the spiritual world has an order and can be even more complex than we can think. There’s an authority and there are Archangel Names who serve and perform tasks for God and also they serve us and help us.
They communicate with us and deliver blessings and messages from God. You just need to increase your spiritual level and connection to have a clearer view of this communication. These messages and blessings we can receive directly from our Guardian Angels and Archangels.
Reading this article and learning more about the Archangel Names is the first step on the path of spiritual level growth and divine knowledge.
